Instructions & FAQs for Horse Shield Pellets
Instructions
- Feed once daily. Administer one scoop (32 grams) daily per 1,000 pounds of body weight. Ideally give the pellets with other feed to minimize the chance of digestive upset, especially for horses with sensitive stomachs. Most horses consider them a tasty treat.
- Increase during peak pest pressure if needed. The dosage may be increased by up to double during the first two weeks and during particularly intense periods of pest prevalence.
- Be consistent and give it time. The bioresonance frequencies in the pellets build their protective effect gradually, reaching full strength within 3 to 4 weeks of consistent daily feeding. Feed every day without skipping — the protection is cumulative, so consistency is what brings it to full effectiveness.
- Combine with the tag. We highly recommend feeding the pellets alongside the Horse Shield Tag, which together make up the complete Horse Shield Kit. The pellets can be used on their own, but in most environments the combination will be needed to achieve full protection.
- PLEASE NOTE: The Horse Shield Pellets are designed to be used in combination with the Horse Shield Tag for a comprehensive fly and pest repellent system that works from the outside and the inside. We strongly recommend that you use the complete system that includes both, called the Horse Shield Kit. If your horse spends significant time indoors then we also recommend using the Horse Stall Tag.
- Using the pellets consistently will always create a significant reduction in the amount of flies bothering your horse, but at certain times of the year and/or in certain locations of heavy infestation your horse may not be completely fly-free. Please see the FAQ below for more information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, either the tag or the pellets may be used on their own, and for some horses that may be enough. It depends mainly on the conditions in which your horse lives - the climate in your area, the time of year, the cleanliness of the barn, the severity of the season, and even the health of your horse - they all play a role in determining how hard it is to keep pests away. In most situations is it better to be safe and use them both (known as the Horse Shield Kit) since that provides maximum protection. In more northern climates when winter comes it is often possible to discontinue feeding the pellets until spring.
The Horse Shield Pellets build their protective effect gradually, reaching full strength within 3 to 4 weeks of consistent daily feeding. Many horse owners notice a difference before the 4-week mark, but feeding the pellets every day without skipping is what allows the bioresonance technology to reach full effectiveness. This is a cumulative process — the longer your horse is on the pellets, the more established the protective field becomes.
Garlic can be toxic to horses in large amounts, but a small dose on a daily basis is actually quite good for their health. The pellets are veterinarian formulated to contain just the right amount of garlic to help repel pests while supporting immune, heart, and digestive health.
Yes, the pellets are safe for horses of all ages and breeds, from young to old — just follow the feeding instructions based on the weight of the horse. Safety for pregnant and nursing horses has not been specifically tested, but there is no reason to expect they would pose any risk.
Chemical fly sprays and pesticide-based fly sheets work by coating your horse’s coat and skin with synthetic repellents — which means constant reapplication, skin and coat exposure, residue on your hands and barn equipment, and an ongoing chemical load on your horse’s system. The Horse Shield Pellets use zero chemical pesticides. Instead, they work from the inside out — carrying bio-energetic frequencies into your horse’s biofield and combining them with naturally repellent ingredients to make your horse unattractive to pests at the source. No residue, no spraying, no chemical burden. It’s a genuinely different category of protection.
Yes. The Horse Shield Pellets are 100% natural and chemical-free, making them fully compatible with other protective measures, including conventional sprays and fly sheets. That said, many horse owners find that once the pellets and tag are fully working, they rely much less — or not at all — on additional chemical products. We always recommend pairing the pellets and tag with the Horse Stall Tag for complete on-horse and in-barn coverage.
This depends on the size of your horse, the prevalence of pests in your area, and the time of year. For a typical 1,000-pound horse fed one scoop per day, each bag lasts about 60 days. Depending on the time of year and the severity of insects you may want to increase the dosage by up to double during particularly intense periods.
The simplest way to stay stocked is to subscribe and save, which delivers a fresh bag automatically at your chosen interval — all at 20% off the normal price. Your horse’s protection never lapses, and you never have to think about it.
The BioPower Horse Shield Kit is appropriate for the vast majority of horses and their environments and will result in a significant reduction in the amount of pests that bother them. This means, however, that the Tag and the Pellets must be used together for maximum protection.
However, there are several factors that influence how difficult it will be to keep your horse pest-free:
- The amount of pests in the environment - this is mild to moderate for most parts of the country for most of the year, but there are exceptions - for example in heavily forested or swampy areas and at certain times of the year, especially in the spring.
- The cleanliness of the horse and barn. It is important to keep the horse and its stall clean to reduce the amount of pests.
- The health of the horse - the less healthy the animal the more pests will be attracted to it, so it is important to feed a healthy diet, and to be aware that a horse with a chronic health condition will be more susceptible to pests.
If your horse is still being bothered by flies or other pests, we first recommend increasing the amount of Horse Shield Pellets to double the standard dosage of one scoop per 1000 pounds. In most cases that should improve the situation.
In extreme cases it may be necessary to use a multi-layered strategy with another natural solution, such as a natural fly repellent spray.
In the vast majority of cases the BioPower Stall Shield, Horse Shield Tag, and Horse Shield Pellets will be the only pest repellent solutions needed, but if some of the factors mentioned above are an issue, it may be necessary to supplement with another natural pest repellent approach.
Yes, the BioPower Pet products have been endorsed by many holistic veterinarians. In fact the chemicals and pesticides used in many conventional horse medications and pest repellents are not approved for human use, and so holistic veterinarians recommend that they not be used for horses either.
